Panama loses nearly $3 million to electronic fraud

Panama's banking association said that banks and consumers in the first five months of the year lost nearly $3 million from electronic fraud like cloning of credit and debit cards, Prensa Latina reported. The amount totaled $7.7 million in 2016 and $4.8 million in 2015. The electronic scam for data theft or customer information is the most commonly used in Panama and consists of the circulation of fictitious emails used for data theft of customer’s credit cards, an official said.
