MedRisk adds telecommunications-based rehab for injured workers

MedRisk Inc. is adding what it calls “telerehabilitation” into its program for managed physical medicine services for injured workers, the company announced Wednesday.

The national program will enable King of Prussia, Pennsylvania-based MedRisk to engage telecommunications technologies to enable licensed physical therapists to work with injured workers from their homes or workplaces, according to a press release.

“We see telerehabilitation as a natural progression in the evolution of physical rehabilitation for injured workers,” said Mary O’Donoghue, MedRisk’s chief clinical and product officer, in a press statement.

The program will use screening tools and data analytics to identify injured workers who are likely to embrace the technology and benefit from a blend of in-person physical therapy and that which takes place via video conferencing technology with a MedRisk physical therapist, according to the announcement.

The on-staff physical therapist will assess the injured worker and develops a treatment strategy that customizes the most appropriate telerehabilitation program for that patient, the company stated.
