EU pesticide regulation threatens UK food supply chain
Posted On: Jun. 20, 2017 4:00 AM CSTThe National Farmers' Union of England and Wales said that the European Union's forthcoming pesticide regulation could affect the U.K.'s supply of cost-effectively produced food and cost farmers more than £1 billion ($1.3 billion), Foodmanufacture.co.uk reported. The regulations could lead to 26 commonly used pesticides and herbicides being banned, wheat yields being cut by 0.6 tons per hectare, fall in farm output of £940 million and a reduction in tax revenues generated by agriculture and its supply chain by £193 million.
