Natural disasters cause economic losses of more than $1 billion

China's Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction said that natural disasters caused $1.3 billion worth of economic losses in May, Xinhua reported. Nearly 9,000 houses collapsed and more than 108,000 houses were damaged during the month. Additionally, nearly 52,000 hectares of crops were destroyed, while around 1.74 million hectares were damaged.
