Disaster-stricken mining firm unlikely to resume operations this year

Roberto de Carvalho, chief executive of Brazil-based mining firm Samarco Mineracao S.A., said that resuming operations this year will be challenging after a dam burst halted the company's operations in November 2015, SBS.com.au reported. The dam's collapse killed 19 people and triggered Brazil's worst environmental disaster with toxic mud polluting rivers. The company said that talks are continuing with the Brazilian government to obtain the required environmental licenses.
