Spike in ‘avocado hand’ has UK doctors calling for warning labels

Beware the avocado. Who knew such a dimply dumpling of a fruit could cause so much pain and suffering?

The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons is now demanding that the avocado industry begin putting warning labels on avocados after noticing an uptick in serious hand injuries, usually after brunch on Saturdays, according to widespread media reports.

The risk is that most people do not know how to cut into the fruit, doctors told reporters.

As stated in the New York Post recently, people “seriously injure themselves while trying to penetrate avocados’ rubbery skin and remove its finicky pit.”

The diagnosis, according to doctors: “avocado hand.”

The solution?

“A warning label could also include avoca-do’s and don’ts on how to safely dismantle the apparently hazardous fruit, according to one proponent,” states the article in the Post.
