Windstorm claims exceed $30 million in Canada

Canadian insurers said that claims related to a windstorm that hit eastern Newfoundland on March 11 totaled $45 million Canada ($33 million), CBC News reported. The windstorm damaged commercial and residential properties and caused power outages. Amanda Dean, Atlantic vice president of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, said that the windstorm was a catastrophic event as it had exceeded the limit of CAD 25 million in damage claims.
