Insured catastrophe losses rise to nearly $10 billion: Aon Benfield

U.K.-based reinsurance broker Aon Benfield Group Ltd. said that the insurance and reinsurance industry losses from global catastrophes in the first quarter increased to $9.6 billion from the earlier estimate of $7.6 billion, Artemis.bm reported. The final toll for insured losses is expected to increase further as claims filter through and assessments remain ongoing for a number of the major events that occurred during the quarter, said an official at Aon.
