Video conferencing service offered for injured workers

Workers compensation medical management firm HomeCare Connect announced Tuesday the launch of videoconferencing for injured workers.

With HomeCare Connect’s Tele-Connect, the Winter Park, Florida-based firm will allow patients to work with clinical care coordinators and doctors within its network of 17,000 providers via mobile telephones, computers and tablets. The firm specializes in catastrophic cases, focusing exclusively on managing the quality and cost of home health, durable medical equipment and supplies for workers’ compensation payers.

At no additional charge to customers, the telemedicine service will help patients clarify treatment, educate them, monitor the use of durable medical equipment, and help amputees adjust to prosthetics. Tele-Connect will also be used to take adjusters on virtual walk-throughs before, during and after home modifications, according to the statement.

“Live video interactions are more personal than telephone conversations and help clinicians see what’s going on,” said a spokesman in the press statement. “If a wound is not healing properly, a treating physician can watch wound care being administered and recommend changes in real time. This accelerates the delivery of appropriate care, speeds recovery and may eliminate the need for a doctor’s office visit.”
