Judge throws out more than 1,000 disability lawsuits

An Arizona state court judge has dismissed out more than 1,000 “frivolous” lawsuits against small business filed by a “serial litigator” that charged their parking lots did not comply with the state’s disability law.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement issued Feb. 17 that Phoenix-based Advocates for Individuals with Disability Foundation in 2016 flooded state courts with more than 1,700 “copy-and-paste” lawsuits.

The ruling dismissing more than 1,000 of the cases by Judge David M. Talamante of Maricopa County Superior Court in Mesa, was in response to a motion filed by the attorney general’s office charging the foundation with lack of standing.  The statement said the office plans to file a motion for sanction against the foundation.

A foundation spokesman could not be reached for comment.
