Insurer files ‘Trumpcare’ trademark application

While Republicans haven’t presented a replacement for Obamacare, a South Carolina insurer is betting on the unofficial name of the new program: Trumpcare.

Summerville, South Carolina-based Hibbits Insurance Inc. filed a trademark application for the term “Trumpcare” in January, news website Gizmodo.com reported Tuesday and Business Insurance confirmed with Hibbits on Wednesday.

A Gizmodo.com reporter recently tracked down Rob Hibbits, founder of the insurance company, who told the reporter that the company is “just having some fun with it.”

“It’s like Obamacare,” Mr Hibbits explained to Gizmodo.com. “We have no idea what we’re going to do with it.”

The application was filed Jan. 19, one day before President Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to the news site.
