Ommen tapped as Iowa insurance commissioner

Doug Ommen was named Iowa Insurance Commissioner by Gov. Terry Branstad, effective Jan. 30.

Mr. Ommen had been serving as Interim Insurance Commissioner since Dec. 26, when he replaced former Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart, who resigned Dec. 23, according to a Monday statement from the governor’s office.

Mr. Ommen has served as deputy insurance commissioner in Iowa since 2013 and was previously Missouri’s insurance commissioner under Gov. Matt Blunt.

“I’m pleased that Doug Ommen has accepted this responsibility as Iowa Insurance Commissioner,” Gov. Branstad said in the statement. “Doug is a seasoned attorney and insurance regulator who has over 30 years of experience in public service, and I’m confident in his ability to lead the Iowa Insurance Division.”
