Everest Re partners with IT firm to reduce workplace injuries

Bermuda reinsurer Everest Re Group Ltd. and information technology firm Salus Systems L.L.C. are joining to help reduce workplace injuries with a new risk management tool that aims to engage workers in creating a safer workplace.

Victoria, British Columbia-based Salus will further develop and market Zero, a collaborative risk management platform that will aim to drive the number of workers compensation insurance claims down to zero by improving communications amongst employees and empowering them to reduce and eliminate workplace safety issues, the companies said Wednesday in a joint statement.

Salus Systems will market the Zero system directly to companies and to Everest Insurance poliyholders across the Everest Specialty P&C portfolio, according to the statement.

Zero will provide workers a real-time method for communicating instantly over mobile devices with their management to report potential safety issues and risk mitigation best practices, the companies said.

“Workers and owners share a mutual interest: keeping employees safe in the workplace,” said Todd Welch, Easton, Pennsylvania-based co-creator of Zero, in the statement. “We created Zero to bring transparency to risk management and safety. This technology platform can provide awareness, instant communication, and access to knowledge for workers and management.”
