BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Insurance excellence program applications being accepted

The International Insurance Society is accepting applications from colleges and universities with risk management and insurance programs for its Global Centers of Insurance Excellence program.

Goals of the program include encouraging universities to play an integral role in advancing insurance knowledge, enhancing insurance research and intellectual capital development, and building connections between the profession and top-tier academic programs and faculty, the New York-based society said Thursday in a statement.

The GCIE designation will be awarded to universities that meet certain criteria. Among other things, applicants must offer a specified minimum of insurance content and business breadth. The program also must have faculty in sufficient numbers and quality to service the program.

In addition, the society said, applicants must have enough program graduates and connections to industry that ensure graduate employment and professional involvement with the program. Applicants must also demonstrate that students are learning primarily from designated full-time faculty with appropriate academic qualifications and research expertise.

An application form is available on the IIS website; the deadline is March 17. Winners will be announced at the Global Insurance Forum in London, July 2-5.

Universities retain the designation for five years. The IIS GCIE Evaluation Committee will consider applications for the designation.
