Nonlife insurers' underwriting losses surpass $1 billion

Indian nonlife insurers posted an aggregate underwriting loss of 75.5 billion Indian rupees ($1.1 billion) in the first half of fiscal year ending March 31, The Times of India reports. The New India Assurance Co. Ltd.'s underwriting loss totaled INR 18 billion, while United India Insurance Co. Ltd. recorded an underwriting loss of INR 15 billion.
