BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Leading insurance lawyer switches firms

Laura Foggan, a leading insurer defense attorney, has joined Washington-based law firm Crowell & Moring L.L.P. as a partner in its insurance-reinsurance group.

Ms. Foggan, who started in the Washington office of Crowell & Moring on Dec. 20, comes to the firm after nearly 30 years at rival law firm Wiley Rein L.L.P., where she led its insurance appellate group. She was named as one of Business Insurance’s Women to Watch in 2011.

Ms. Foggan has served as lead counsel in insurance disputes involving environmental and toxic tort, construction defect, personal and advertising injury, employment liability, product liability, mass tort and bad faith claims.

She has participated in more than 200 appeals nationwide and has made contributions to the development of insurance law precedents across the United States, according to a Crowell & Moring statement.

In addition to her litigation work, Ms. Foggan advises insurers on emerging exposures, such as cyber risk, privacy and data breach claims, and risks and opportunities relating to the commercial use of unmanned aircraft systems.

Ms. Foggan advocates for insurers in legislative and regulatory matters on behalf of both individual insurers and industry trade groups.

Her clients have included the Complex Insurance Claims Litigation Association, American Insurance Association, National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, and Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.
