NEW JOB TITLE: New York-based head of property broking at Willis Towers Watson P.L.C.
PREVIOUS POSITION: New York-based principal at Vanbridge L.L.C.
LOOKING FORWARD TO: I’m excited to help our team go to market in a new way. As a result of the merger of Willis Towers Watson, we have a great opportunity to bring a fresh and connected perspective to help clients better understand risk. That would include cutting-edge analytics and expanding the power of capital to protect organizations.
GOALS FOR NEW POSITION: Principally, it would be growing market share in the global property arena. More particularly (it would be) bringing together our already considerable property resources around the world and doing that in a boundaryless way to deliver optimal solutions to clients.
ON LEADERSHIP: To me, it’s leading by example, by having a positive attitude and taking a real interest in the growth and development of people. Giving them the room to grow.
CHALLENGES FACING INDUSTRY: I think it’s all about capital, employing capital in a more efficient and profitable way. Particularly at this point in time, many pundits say that there is an overabundance of capital, but the irony of that is there are still so many uninsured and underinsured risks around the world. I think there is more than enough room to use up all of that capital in a profitable and meaningful way.
FIRST INDUSTRY JOB: Trainee at Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc.
WHAT SURPRISED ME: There are many that have a dim view of the industry. I just continue to find it endlessly fascinating and fun — the challenges you face with addressing risks, devising language to cover those risks, finding capital to cover those risks and, I think most especially, the interaction that you have with people all over the globe.
ADVICE: I would say differentiate by hard work. There are plenty of smart people in the world, but I think what separates the best from the others is the application of hard work.
FAVORITE QUOTE: “There is no limit to what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.”
OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: I think I would be a serial entrepreneur. I love creating things and giving them life and doing that with great people around you.
HOBBIES: I’m a voracious reader. I read at least a book a week on average. My other hobby is tending my farm. We have a horse farm, and you never run out of things to do on a horse farm.
PETS: We have four dogs, two cats, four goats and five or six horses.
DON’T LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT: My Kindle.
FAVORITE MEAL: Pasta, I’m Italian!
ON MUSIC: Scarlet Begonias by Grateful Dead
