Cybercriminals target mining sector: Trend Micro

Japan-based security firm Trend Micro Inc. has said in a report that cybercriminals are targeting firms in the mining industry and corporate espionage is the main reason for the attacks, Saudi Gazette reported.

Trend Micro had been called in to investigate 17 incidents involving cyber attacks on 22 entities operating in the mining sector since 2010. The report said that attacks are also carried out for other motives such as information theft and hacktivism. The study said cybercriminals also target intellectual property data.
