Former Spirit AeroSystems employees file age bias suit

(Reuters) — Former employees of Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc. said they filed a suit on Monday alleging the company singled them out by age in conducting layoffs in 2013.
The suit filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas names two dozen ex-employees as plaintiffs, the former workers said. Spirit did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Wichita, Kansas-based Spirit was spun off from Boeing Co. in 2005 and is a major supplier to Boeing, Airbus Group S.E., Bombardier Inc. and other aircraft makers.
The AARP Foundation, part of the nonprofit AARP organization that advocates for senior citizens, was part of the legal team representing the former Spirit employees, Daniel Kohrman, an AARP attorney, said at a press conference in Wichita announcing the suit.
He said up to 150 additional plaintiffs could join the case.
The company's stock was trading 1.7% higher at $42.88.
