Master's degree scholarships for risk management awarded

The Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. said Monday that 11 industry professionals were granted part-time master’s degree scholarships, each worth up to $10,000.

The recipients of the scholarship are Laura Beth Beattie from Zurich North America, Patrick S. Byrnes from Travelers Cos. Inc., Shan He from Soteria Risk L.L.C., Shane Hogan from Aon Risk Solutions, Stacey Nielson from JM Family Enterprises Inc., Kelly M. Parker from Olivet College RMI Center, Benjamin L. Patterson from Chubb Ltd., Jessica R. Rosser from Crown Castle International Corp., Shetikka Royal from DS Services of America Inc., Matthew J. Shoaf from Munich Reinsurance America Inc., and Jeff Stanworth from State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., the New York-based foundation said in a statement.

The Spencer Educational Foundation awards scholarship and grants in risk management and insurance and has exceeded $6 million in total scholarship dollars granted to 906 students since 1979, according to the statement.

As the charitable affiliate of the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc., the Spencer Foundation was founded in 1979 to honor the late Robert S. Spencer, a former RIMS president.

“We congratulate this year’s Part-time Master’s Scholarship recipients,” foundation Chairman Ron Davis said in the statement. “As these individuals further their education, they also further the professionalism of the industry.”
