Kenya to introduce insurance subsidy program for small scale farmers
Posted On: Jun. 14, 2016 12:00 AM CSTKenya said that it is looking to introduce an insurance subsidy program for small scale farmers to tackle the negative effects of climate change, reported Xinhua.
John Mwaniki, an official at the nation's agriculture ministry, said that a pilot project is currently underway in three of the nation's 47 counties.
Under the program, the government will pay 50% of the premium while the farmers will pay the rest.
The insurance cover will compensate farmers in event of crop failures due to drought or floods, said Mr. Mwaniki.
