Indonesia sees rise in bird flu cases

Data from the Agriculture Ministry of Indonesia revealed that 148 cases of bird flu were reported in the first four months of 2016, compared with 123 cases reported throughout 2015, The Jakarta Post reported.

"Lack of public awareness has been the main contributing factor to the continued circulation of the virus," said a ministry official, adding that "Java remains as the region with the highest number of recorded cases, with ducks and layers the predominantly those to have been infected."

West Java recorded 56 cases during the period, followed by 26 cases recorded in Lampung.
