Bermuda Insurance Institute to give Stephen Catlin lifetime achievement award

Stephen Catlin is on tap to receive the Bermuda Insurance Institute's lifetime achievement award as one of the winners of the 2015 Insurance Industry Awards.

The awards honor “exceptional companies and individuals whose contributions to the (re)insurance industry, and/or the local community is remarkable.” This year's winners will be celebrated on May 5 at the annual awards ceremony which will be held at the Hamilton Princess hotel, Bermuda Insurance Institute said in a Monday statement.

Mr. Catlin led Catlin Group Ltd. for over 30 years, taking it from inception in 1984 as a two-person syndicate of Lloyd's of London to an international insurer with more than 50 offices in more than 20 countries, according to the statement.

Jeremy Cox will be given the industry leader of the year award. Mr. Cox has been the CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority since 2010. Victoria Cunningham will receive the young industry leader of the year award. Ms. Cunningham is assistant vice president at Tokio Millennium Re A.G., Bermuda Insurance Institute said in the statement.

Additionally, Marsh L.L.C. and Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C. will receive the corporate social responsibility award. XL Catlin will be awarded the top corporate sponsor award, according to the statement.
