Insurers, reinsurers retain more cat risk at 1-in-100-year level: A.M. Best

Data by A.M. Best Co. Inc. has found that insurers and reinsurers have increased their retention of catastrophe risk at the 1-in-100-year level, reports Artemis.bm.

The rating agency examined the probable maximum loss data from 25 of the largest of its rated insurers and reinsurers writing catastrophe-exposed business in London, Europe and Bermuda from the end of 2012 to the end of 2015. A.M. Best found that the increase in retention was due to pricing fluctuations and possibly the influence of alternative reinsurance capital.
