Mexico fines Volkswagen $8.9 million over emissions

Mexico has imposed a fine of $8.9 million on Volkswagen de Mexico S.A. de C.V. for selling 45,494 vehicles for the 2016 model year without certificates for emissions compliance, The Associated Press reports.

The fine covers Volkswagen's Audi, SEAT and Porsche brands, among others. Officials are still investigating vehicles sold between 2009 and 2015 that may have emission cheating software installed in them, said the Mexican attorney general's office for environmental protection.
