U.K. storms cause estimated $763 million in insured losses

Insured flood-related property losses from storms Eva and Frank in the United Kingdom in December, as well as further low pressure weather systems in January, will total about £526 million ($762.8 million), according to catastrophe insurance data provider Perils A.G.

Zurich-based Perils said Friday that its estimate of flood losses from the storms on Dec. 25 and 29 were separate from wind losses from the two storms, which are likely to be in the “low double-digit millions.”

Perils also noted that the losses come on top of an estimate of £717 million ($1.04 billion) in < a href="/article/20160118/NEWS09/160119839">insured losses from Storm Desmond, which hit the United Kingdom on Dec. 4.

Perils said it would release an update of insured flood losses from storms Eva and Frank on March 25.

Storm Imogen hit the United Kingdom on Monday, and more than 60 flood warnings currently are in place, according to the U.K. Environment Agency.
