Ship hijackings decline in 2015: International Maritime Bureau

The International Maritime Bureau has said in a report that ship hijackings decreased in 2015 from a year ago, reported Globalnews.ca.

There were 15 ship hijackings reported in the year, as compared with 21 in 2014.

The watchdog said that 246 piracy incidents were recorded globally in the year.

Piracy incidents consisted mostly of low-level theft. Southeast Asia accounted for most of the world's incidents, said the watchdog.

Nigeria remained a hotspot for violent piracy and armed robbery with 14 reported incidents.
