Nissan hit by cyber attack

Hacktivist group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for a cyber attack against Japan-based carmaker Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. to protest Japan's whale hunting in the Antarctic, The Independent reports.

The group targeted the automaker's Japanese and global websites in separate distributed denial of service attacks. The attacks only hit the company's consumer-oriented websites, and the private information of the automaker and users was not at risk, Nissan said. A Nissan spokesman said that the company has no connection to whaling and it took the websites offline itself to prevent further damage from the attack.
