Natural disasters cause damage of $660 million annually in 5 years in Vietnam

Unseasonal rains, lightning, whirlwinds, erosion and landslides in Vietnam have caused damage of $660 million annually and killed over 220 people per year between 2011 and 2015, VietNamNet Bridge reported.

These weather events have been attributed to climate change.

Severe saltwater intrusion and water shortages have been reported in the nation since late 2014, while 19 storms and tropical depressions appeared in the East Sea in 2013.

Many areas received rainfall of up to hundreds of millimeters per hour.
