Natural disasters cost New Zealand's insurance industry $79 million in 2015

Data from the Insurance Council of New Zealand has shown that natural disasters cost the nation's insurance industry $115 million New Zealand ($79 million) in 2015, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Damage from tornados, cyclones, storms and floods led New Zealanders to lodge almost 2,000 insurance claims during the year.

The cost of Whanganui floods to the insurance industry was estimated at around NZD 42 million.

Otago flooding in June 2015 cost NZD 28 million in claims.
