Listing London Christmas tree on safety watch

The Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square in London each festive season is one of the most iconic landmarks of the holiday period — it even has its own Twitter handle.

But even icons are subject to health and safety fears.

And the aftermath of recent stormy weather in the United Kingdom left the famous tree listing slightly, the BBC reported.

The Mayor of London's office confirmed that it was carrying out checks to ensure that the tree did not pose a risk to the public, the BBC said.

There have been no further reports on the safety of the tree.

But anyone who is concerned about the tree's health can check up on it via Twitter — @TrafalgarsTree.

The people of Oslo, Norway, have donated a Christmas tree to the people of Britain every year since 1947 as a token of gratitude for the United Kingdom's support for Norway during World War II.

The tree annually stands in Trafalgar Square, adorned with white lights, from the start of December until Jan. 6.
