Small businesses excluded from Flood Re just months before storm

The U.K. government had shelved plans to include small businesses in a specialist flood insurance scheme just months before hundreds of firms were hit by the recent storm Desmond, reports The Independent.

The government should "extend the Flood Re scheme to small businesses," a U.K. politician said.

A government official had earlier concluded that it is not worth setting up a separate plan for businesses, said a source.

Flood Re will become effective in 2016 for home-owners residing on flood plains.
