Don't be a Grinch with workplace holiday decor

With minimal effort, employers can enjoy the holiday season without bah-humbugging their way into a discrimination dispute.

That's what a legal blog is advising companies that want to add some seasonal cheer around the office.

Even though the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says it's with OK secular decorations like a tree or wreaths in an office, the Ohio Employer's Law Blog encourages a little extra effort. “The holiday season is a perfect example to demonstrate to your employees that you are an employer of inclusion. And it does not take much. Mix in a menorah and a Happy Hanukkah with your Christmas tree and Merry Christmas. That's it,” wrote blogger and partner Jonathan Hyman of Meyers, Roman, Friedberg & Lewis in Cleveland.

Mr. Hyman goes on to echo this EEOC directive: “As a best practice … all employers may find that sensitivity to the diversity of their workplace promotes positive employee relations.”
