Natural disasters cost Latin America, Caribbean $11 billion in decade

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has said that natural disasters caused $11 billion in damage to crops and livestock in Latin America and the Caribbean between 2003 and 2013, reports Xinhua.

Nineteen nations in the region were hit by 37 natural disasters. About 55% of the losses were caused by floods and 30% by drought. Brazil was the hardest-hit nation with regards to agricultural production.
