Take-up of political risk insurance up in Uganda as election nears

Benjamin Mugisha, senior underwriter at African Trade Insurance Agency Ltd., has said that increasing numbers of firms in Uganda are buying insurance against political risks, reports Daily Monitor.

ATI attributed the increase in the political risk insurance uptake to the fact that investors are protecting investments as election time nears in the country. ATI said in its 2014 annual report that it provided $88 million in coverage against political violence in 2014.
