Drug and alcohol use in workplace costs Australian businesses billions: Experts

Experts at a recent workers compensation seminar held by Allianz Australia Ltd. said that drug and alcohol use in the workplace costs billions to Australian businesses, reported International Business Times.

Data from Australia's National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction has shown that drug and alcohol use causes a loss of about $5.2 billion Australian ($3.7 billion) in terms of productivity and $3 billion Australian ($2.13 billion) in absenteeism.

About 5.6% of the workforce admits working under the influence of alcohol and 2% under the influence of drugs, said a NCETA official.
