About 540,000 Volkswagens in Germany need more than software changes: Ministry

Germany's transport ministry has said that Volkswagen A.G. is expected to make hardware changes along with software changes to nearly about 540,000 of its 2.4 million diesel cars being recalled in Germany due to the emissions scandal, reports The Guardian citing news agencies.

The ministry said that the nation's Federal Motor Transport Authority "currently expects that approximately 540,000 will also need hardware changes."

Meanwhile, Fitch Ratings Ltd. has downgraded Volkswagen's credit rating from A to BBB+ in wake of the scandal.
