Taiwanese oil firm hit with fines over oil spill
Posted On: Nov. 9, 2015 12:00 AM CSTTaiwan's state-owned oil company CPC Corp. has been hit with three separate fines amounting to $9 million Taiwanese ($275,130) for the rupture of an underground pipe that spilled oil in many rivers, Taipei Times reported.
The pipe carrying boiler fuel oil ruptured near Jhongsing Road in Sijhih district.
The New Taipei City Environmental Protection Department said it has cleaned up 630,000 liters of oil in Neikou Creek and Tsaolan Creek so far.
CPC said that a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that hit eastern Taiwan might have caused the fracture.
