Taiwan's state-owned oil company CPC Corp. has been hit with three separate fines amounting to $9 million Taiwanese ($275,130) for the rupture of an underground pipe that spilled oil in many rivers, Taipei Times reported.

CPC said that a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that hit eastern Taiwan might have caused the fracture.
