Aspen appoints president and chief underwriting officer for insurance

David Cohen has been named president and chief underwriting officer of Aspen Insurance Holdings' insurance segment.

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. has named New York-based David Cohen president and chief underwriting officer of its insurance segment, Aspen Insurance.

In this role Mr. Cohen will develop and implement the overall business strategy of Aspen Insurance. He will oversee segment business plans and pricing models, support business development activity and act as a referral authority for underwriting risks, Aspen said in a Tuesday statement.

Previously, Mr. Cohen was president and U.S. and global casualty chief underwriting officer, at Liberty International Underwriters Co., according to the statement.

“David is an exceptional underwriter in the specialty insurance marketplace and a charismatic business leader,” Chris O'Kane, Aspen's CEO, said during the company's third-quarter earnings conference call on Tuesday morning. “We see this as an excellent opportunity to bring on board an acknowledged leader in the market and significantly add to our specialty underwriting leadership.”
