7.5-magnitude quake claims over 260 lives, downs buildings and damages infrastructure

A 7.5-magnitude earthquake has hit Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India, killing over 260 people, reported The Guardian. Officials have said that the death toll will increase.

"Initial reports show a big loss of life, huge financial losses in Badakhshan, Takhar, Nangarhar, Kunar and other regions, including Kabul," Abdullah Abdullah, Afghanistan's chief executive officer said. "There have been landslides, extensive damage to infrastructure and a lot of old houses have been completely damaged," a resident of Pakistan's Chitral region said.
