Typhoon causes more than $142 million in damage

Typhoon Koppu, which recently hit the Philippines and claimed 26 lives, has weakened and moved northeast towards Japan's Ryukyu Islands, reported Reuters.

The typhoon caused 6.57 billion Philippine pesos ($142 million) of damage to crops, infrastructure and homes. Officials said that flooding destroyed 5% of expected crop production for the fourth quarter in the rice-producing provinces of the nation. The typhoon is moving towards Japan.
