Agriculture damage from typhoon in Philippines at least $128m

An official at the Philippines' Department of Agriculture said that damage to the nation's agriculture sector from the recent typhoon Koppu totaled at least 5.9 billion Philippine pesos ($128 million), reported Xinhua.

The typhoon affected about 277,060 hectares of rich agricultural lands in northern regions of Central Luzon, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera regions, said the official.

Corn and high value crops recorded production losses of PHP 84.5 million ($1.8 million) and PHP 528.9 million ($11.4 million), respectively.
