Gas blast in Rio de Janeiro

The Brazilian government said that a huge explosion at a pizza restaurant in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro city has damaged 40 buildings, reports International Business Times.

Witnesses said that the explosion happened at the Dell'Arco pizzeria.

The blast, which is suspected to have resulted from a gas leak at the restaurant, destroyed many commercial establishments in the region.

The explosion damaged windows and roofs of houses and apartment blocks, and injured eight people.

Officials are investigating the cause of the explosion.
