Aircraft at risk of cyber attack: Official

The European Aviation Safety Agency director Patrick Ky has warned that hackers could infiltrate critical systems in an aircraft on the ground, reported Threatpost citing Les Echos newspaper.

Mr. Ky said that a consultant hired by the agency exploited vulnerabilities in the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System that is used to transmit text messages between planes and ground stations.

The consultant cracked the ACARS in five minutes and it took him a couple of days to access the aircraft control system on the ground, said Mr. Ky.
