Being a benefits broker, Lindsey Maguire said, is far more than finding insurance coverage for clients.

“It is not just placing coverage. It is finding real solutions to real problems,” said Ms. Maguire, an account executive and vice president of employee benefits at IMA Financial Group Inc. in Denver.

The solutions that Ms. Maguire has implemented for clients, such as putting in wellness programs, onsite medical clinics and hotlines in which an organization's employees can call a nurse to get needed information, can cut costs substantially.

“I want to cut costs by 10%. Finding alternative ways of achieving goals to cut costs is an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said.

Ms. Maguire's clients say she has that rare ability to think in creative ways.

“She knows how to think outside the box, which really works well with our organization,” said Renee Mabe, division manager for employee benefits and medical services with El Paso County, Colorado.

In addition, Ms. Maguire “knows how to communicate at any level, whether it is presenting information to our board of trustees or to our employees,” Ms. Mabe said.

“She has that ability to speak to people at all levels of an organization and can deliver a meaningful message to every single person in a room. I have rarely seen that ability in my professional life,” said Amy Hansel, an IMA Financial Group account manager in Denver.

“I pride myself that I have never lost a client since joining IMA in 2009,” Ms. McGuire said.
