Australia: Volkswagen A.G. may face billions in fines

Volkswagen A.G. is under investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and may face billions of dollars in fines if it is found to have used a "defeat device" capable of cheating pollution tests on cars sold in Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

If the cheating software was used on locally sold cars, a fine of $1.1 million Australian ($771,980) for every breach could be imposed on Volkswagen
