Tino Brambilla, manager of insurance services for Manitoba Hydro, won the 2015 Donald M. Stuart Award from the Risk & Insurance Management Society's Ontario, Canada, chapter.

The award, given to Mr. Brambilla at the RIMS Canada conference on Monday, has been bestowed every year since 1979 to a Canadian making outstanding contributions to the risk management profession.

“In spite of their expanding responsibilities within their organizations, there is a select group of risk professionals who routinely go above and beyond to ensure that this profession continues to thrive,” Paul Provis, president of Ontario RIMS, said in a statement. “Not only is Tino Brambilla a highly accomplished practitioner, but he has never lost sight of the value he can add by supporting his fellow risk professionals.”

After joining Centra Gas Manitoba in 1997, Mr. Brambilla helped to consolidate the organization's insurance and risk management programs when it merged with Manitoba Hydro and, again, when Winnipeg Hydro was purchased. He has been manager of insurance services with Manitoba Hydro since 1999.

“Since I began in the profession, risk management and the risks our organizations face have certainly evolved,” Mr. Brambilla said. “One of the greatest assets risk professionals have is each other. Sharing ideas and experiences is so critical to what we do, and it has been rewarding to give back to the profession throughout my career.”

During an emotional acceptance speech at the conference, Mr. Brambilla thanked his wife Lynn for her support and her willingness to share their wedding anniversaries with the RIMS Canada conference — Monday marked the couple's 30th anniversary.

Mr. Brambilla is a board member of RIMS Manitoba Chapter and previously served as the chapter's president for four years. He has held several positions, including chapter delegate, treasurer and chair of the RIMS Canada Council.

The Fred H. Bossons Award, which each year honors the risk management professional who earns the highest marks on the three courses required to receive the CRM designation, was presented to Trudie E MacDonald, senior underwriter at Usborne & Hibbert Mutual Fire Insurance Co. based in Exeter, Ontario, during Monday's ceremony.
