U.S. Geological Survey makes initial estimates of Chile quake losses

The United States Geological Survey has said made initial estimates of the potential economic losses caused by the major 8.3-magnitude earthquake that hit Chile this week, reported BNamericas.

There is a 52% chance "of losses being between $100 million and $1 billion," said the USGS. The quake has claimed eight lives and caused heavy damage in Los Vilos, Tongoy, Coquimbo and Concon regions.
