Coastal megacities in Asia at risk of costly disasters
Posted On: Aug. 31, 2015 12:00 AM CSTAsia's rapidly growing coastal megacities are at risk of powerful storms causing costly disasters, The Straits Times reported.
Growing infrastructure and business investment are increasing the dangers, said insurers and disaster risk experts. Insurers fear that costly disasters are only a matter of time as the region's coastal megacities grow rapidly. "It is expected that, in the near term, the coastal megacities of Asia will be battered by stronger tropical cyclones and inundated by coastal flooding," said Preety Bhandari, an official at the Asian Development Bank.
