The Om el-Kheir cargo ship has been reportedly set ablaze at the southern entrance of the Suez Canal in Egypt, The Cairo Post reports.

This happened in a berth of Port Tawfik and is the first incident to take place since the inauguration of the canal's expansion.

The Red Sea Ports Authority said that maritime navigation at the entrance of the Suez Canal has not been affected by the incident.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

The ship was en route to Cambodia and had been docked at the berth since April.
